Preschool
Tuesday was Jackson's first day of Preschool at Timber Lake Christian Preschool. We tried to do Joy school last year and if you may recall from my posts then, it didn't work out. Most of the other kids in the class were older and more mature and he just couldn't sit down and pay attention. This time around, it seems we've found a winner. The school is structured so that there are a lot of activities. There are learning centers around the classroom and they keep the kids rotating so that they don't get bored. The first day I walked to the door to pick up Jackson and looked in the window. Everyone was sitting in a circle on the rug listening to a book...everyone but Jackson. He was in the back "wrestling" with his teacher. Miss Sandy said that Jackson was good the whole day except when it came time to sit down and listen. Though this is pretty typical for an active 3-year-old, I was definitely disheartened after last years' experience. The one difference this year was that Jackson seemed to like it and wanted to go back. He always fought me on going to Joy School. So Thursday came, time for school again. Jake and I talked to Jackson a lot about listening to his teachers and being a leader by being the first to do whatever the teacher said. That afternoon when I picked him up, Miss Sandy said he did much better. She said a couple times he said he didn't want to do what she said, but he did it anyway. I feel good about this and Jackson seems excited, so that's the most important part. Also, after only 2 days, he's already writing letters! If we write his name he can write the letters directly underneath on the paper. He's really working hard.
Right before school, Jackson proudly displays his new Superman backpack, complete with school glue in the side pouch.
Jackson putting his backpack in his cubby hole. (Yes, the top name says "Breanna" but the one you can't see says "Jackson".)
Jackson and his teacher find his name and put it on the board next to his picture to show that he is present.
Another milestone that I don't have pictures of...Jackson had his first dentist appointment on Thursday right after school with one of my high school friends, John O'Loughlin. Jackson was super scared when we got there, but he sat on Jake's lap and did great! So now we're over that hurdle...no more fear of dentists!
